Why am I doing these portraits? In mid 2020 I created two paintings of children with rare disorders. I wanted to highlight the good that is in them, to bring hope and encouragement for themselves, their families, and to others. I created a portrait of each of them, and wrote their story as described to me by their parents, and created a lasting memory for their family.
Since then, this effort has grown. I am creating a book with the stories of differently abled children. I am portraying them, what they can do, and what they contribute to their families, and the community as a whole. I am also working on making prints of these paintings and the stories that go along with them to display in the waiting rooms or hallways of children’s hospitals and organizations that work with children with rare disorders or diseases.
The working title of my book is, “See What I Can Do! Stories of Remarkable Children”.
Create a Portrait of Your Remarkable Child
See What I can Do! is a project to recognize the special abilities of children with rare disorders or diseases that result in special needs. “See What I Can Do” is a series of paintings and the associated stories of those children, celebrating the things that they can do!
Each work of art is a 16″ by 20″ acrylic or watercolor painting. This section of my web page will show the progress I am making on the various paintings and the stories in this series. My plan is to make this series into a book to give encouragement and hope to these children and their families.
