A fire clears the forest floor, preparing the ground for a redwood seed to start a new life. This is the first book of 10 more to come. It is a story as told by the tree itself, of how a redwood named Intrepid began its life. From seed to 60 feet tall in 20 rings (years), this book describes some of the early experiences that Intrepid had as it started to grow.
Future books will continue Intrepid’s tale, telling of the forest’s experience with fire, wind, earthquakes, and volcanos. Intrepid will tell of the forest within a forest at the tops of the redwoods, the animals that live among these old trees. And Intrepid will also tell of its experience with many different two legged animals that came; some to care for the trees, some to explore new lands, some to exploit the tall trees, some to protect the trees that give life.
